Arranging all the paperwork need not be so daunting knowing that we are here to help you through all the legalities and bureaucracy so you have a stress free wedding in Romagna.
The information provided is based on both the bride and groom being British citizens residing in the UK.
The following documents must be presented to the Italian authorities prior to the wedding date:
- Original long form Birth Certificates (must include names of both parents)
- Photocopies of passports (first 5 pages of old format or last page of European format)
- Certificate of ‘No Impediment’ (known as ‘Nulla Osta’ in Italy). To obtain this, you must give notice of your marriage to your local registry office in the UK. After 23 days of the publication of Banns, the registry office releases a certificate of ‘No impediment’. This then has to be sent to the consular office in Florence who will issue a ‘Nulla Osta’ (Italian version of the certificate of ‘No Impediment’). The local authorities will need this certificate at least one month before the wedding.
- Deed Poll (in case of change of name)
- Proof of termination of any previous marriage (Decree Absolute or Death Certificate) together with the previous marriage certificate.
Cost of Certificate of ‘No Impediment’ - £59.00 / €84.00
All paperwork is valid for 3 months from the date of issue. Please make sure that your full names are the same on all of your documents (passports, certificate of ‘No Impediment’ etc.) as your paperwork will be refused by the Italian authorities. The bride must use her maiden name.
Please read the notes on Marriages of British Citizens in Italy for further information.
